New Maintenance System in Windows Experimental


It has been a bit since I published an update for this game. It was not for lack of working on the game, though. I’m pleased to announce that the culmination of a lot of behind the scenes work is now available in the windows-experimental channel!

What’s changed?

The most significant change in this update is a complete overhaul of the entire maintenance system. The new system works as follows:

All maintainable systems are now “plug consoles”. Plug consoles are terminals for ship systems that have something along the lines of fuses or power sources plugged into them. As the game progress, the power level of each system decreases. By default, the amount of power given to each system is held in stasis. In order to fix systems, they must be given extra power by plugging in the fourth plug into the console. There is a spare plug in the safe room that you can carry from plug console to plug console. But be warned, there is only one spare plug and you may need to fix multiple systems simultaneously.

There are two possible controls for picking up a plug: first make sure you are looking a plug that has the “Pick Up” text hovering above it. Then, to pick it up, you can either press the e button, or left click the mouse button. You can place a plug in any empty socket by looking at the socket until you see the text “place plug” and then pressing e or left clicking again to place the plug.

Other Changes

  • The general atmosphere of the game has been made creepier (hopefully)
  • Some sound effects are now using a ray-traced system to help players locate the origin of the sound effect.
